STUFF IT! BACKPACK DRIVE 2016
Organized by: Delia Cavazos
EVENT DATE Jul 22, 2016
It started with just two backpacks. Delia was working at a local bank when she met a family that was having a hard time getting ready for school to start. Money was tight, bills had to get paid, and their kids were in need of supplies. It didn’t seem right to Delia that these little children would go back to school without the very best. Certainly, she could get a couple of backpacks and fill them with supplies for two people.
One family was in need, and an ordinary person responded. Two kids went back to school with a smile on their faces and a new pack on their backs. That was the first Stuff It, and now – a few years later – hundreds of children have felt the same exhilaration of a community getting behind them. Whether through donating time, money, or supplies, ordinary people have stepped up together to do extraordinary things for San Antonio kids.
When a child feels their community is excited to go back to school, they get excited too. Events like Stuff It teach kids that school is a vital part to their growth toward adulthood, and that we care about their futures.
The Ordinary believes that ordinary people can do extraordinary things together. All it takes is one selfless act. You can change a kid’s story forever.
