Stuff It! Backpack Drive 2014
Organized by: Karla Vega
EVENT DATE Aug 01, 2014
We have come a long way from our first drive. In 2010, Delia Cavazos saw a need for families that did not have the means to buy school supplies. But she was only one ordinary person. Still, she figured that doing something was better than nothing. Delia went ahead and purchased two backpacks and stuffed them with school supplies and was able to donate them to two children in need. The following year, Old Navy gave her a great discount on backpacks and she was able to purchase 10 backpacks this time. Some of her colleagues also found it in their hearts to help, so they donated the supplies that were used to stuff the backpacks. The third year, even more people joined in the cause--Delia had the support of family, friends, colleagues, neighbors, her running group and even complete strangers. That year, the group collected close to 40 stuffed backpacks!
Last year, the movement to make a difference continued, with even more individual support as well as the backing of a community focused corporation, Bank of America. Together we were able to multiply our reach and donated nearly 300 backpacks stuffed with school supplies. And the story continues--Our goal for 2014 is to find the means to donate 500 stuffed backpacks. This year, we would like for you to be a part of our story and, together, make this the most successful year yet! Delia's story started with two backpacks ...... What will your story start with? #ordinarypeopledoingextraordinarythings
All the donations will go towards getting backpacks and stuffing them with school supplies! Let's show those kids that we care :)
