BENEFITING: STUPID CANCER
ORGANIZER: STUPID CANCER
EVENT DATE: Mar 20, 2016
I remember waking up in the recovery room and seeing my families teary eyes ,and wet cheeks. I knew immediately that what I feared was now a reality. I had cancer. In the days and weeks following my diagnosis I thought to myself, "I'm 27, I can't have cancer". It was a hard reality to swallow. I remember thinking of all the things I may potentially never be able to do, or accomplish if my time here were to be cut short, as I was so young. In many ways I felt alienated because I did not personally know of anyone else that was similar in age , and at a similar point in their life battling cancer. However, during my first chemotherapy treatment I was fortunate enough to learn of Stupid Cancer Inc. Stupid Cancer Inc. is a support network for young cancer survivors and patients. It was comforting to know that other young adults were sharing similar experiences, emotions, and challenges. Stupid Cancer was focused on cancer patients not just surviving but living, and living life to its fullest. For this reason, I am running the 2016 NYC Half Marathon with Team Stupid Cancer as a supporter and survivor. Any contribution that is made to our team through this page is greatly appreciated. There is no amount that is too small.
Since 2009, Team Stupid Cancer has helped to raise over $100,000 in support of our mission to empower young adults affected by cancer. Join an awesome community fighting cancer in young adults. Team Stupid Cancer is your chance to raise funds to ensure that no young adult affected by cancer goes unaware of the age-appropriate resources they are entitled to so they can get busy living! Whether you run one mile or 26.2, in the mud or on a bike, there's a place for you!
