Like just about everyone, I have had family and friends close to home who have battled cancer.
In 2003, my mom was diagnosed with malignant melanoma and underwent a sentinal node biopsy of her lymph nodes and eventual surgery to remove the cancer cells. Thankfully, she has been in remission for 13 years.
A couple years later in 2005, my maternal grandma, Phyllis was diagnosed with breast cancer and underwent a masectomy and later, radiation and chemotherapy. Sadly, the cancer later metastasized to her brain and she passed away under the care of my mom and my aunts in her home in January 2007.
Due to this very personal connnection to cancer, I'd like to set a fundraising goal of $2,500 and contribute to a great non-profit organization like Stand Up To Cancer that donates 100% of fundraising proceeds directly to accelerate the groundbreaking translational research to help cancer patients become long-term survivors.
