THE STORY:

As many of you know, cancer is a huge reason why I locked arms with Beautycounter. I've lost both my parents to the disease and, to be completely honest, have spent most of my life terrified of suffering the same fate – or worse, that my children could.

Shortly after my mom passed away in 1977 - four days after her 34th birthday - I remember an ad campaign where the words ‘Cancer Can Be Beaten’ were splashed across all our milk cartons. I stared at those words at every meal - and it gave me hope. Since then, I've supported friends through chemo and major cancer surgeries, or who themselves are feeling like the wind has been knocked out of them as they support a loved one who was battling cancer. I've rallied around others whose children have been diagnosed with this insidious disease, shedding tears over how unfair it all is. (Did you know that, since 1975, childhood cancer has increased by 20%?!) In fact, I have yet to meet anyone who doesn't know someone who's been touched by cancer in some way. Cancer touches us all.

Today, 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer. 40 years ago that stat was 1 in 20.  Of the women today who are diagnosed with breast cancer, 90% do not have a mutation in the BRCA gene, the gene most commonly associated with breast cancer - so this dramatic increase isn't solely based on an increase in early detection. There is something environmental in play and we can control a huge part of that. More than 85,000 chemicals have been introduced into commerce since World War II and almost 90 percent of those ingredients have never been tested for safety on human health. THIS is why we do what we do at Beautycounter. It’s perfectly legal for companies to use harmful ingredients linked to cancer in the products we use on our skin every single day. BEAUTYCOUNTER’S MISSION IS TO GET SAFER PRODUCTS INTO THE HANDS OF EVERYONE. We deliver on our mission in three important ways: through our beautiful high performing products, education, and by advocating for more laws protecting health. This campaign with SU2C is an example of our mission in action. We believe that preventing exposure to potentially harmful ingredients in the products we use every day is simply the right thing to do. For too long, cancer has been the leading cause of death in Canada. It’s time to stop cancer in its tracks. STAND UP TO CANCER’S MISSION IS TO RAISE FUNDS TO ACCELERATE THE PACE OF GROUNDBREAKING TRANSLATIONAL RESEARCH THAT CAN GET NEW THERAPIES TO PATIENTS QUICKLY AND SAVE LIVES NOW.

Join me in fundraising (every little bit helps) to Stand Up to Cancer. Make a donation through this fundraising page (Beautycounter corporate will match all consultant raised donations up to $50,000), or if you would like to support through your Beautycounter purchases this month, I will be donating 100% of my commissions from my Social on a Mission. Shop luxurious safe products for you and your family and you'll be contributing towards this incredibly important cause. Thank you for your support. Together we can make this world a safer place for our children, by limiting our exposure to toxic chemicals through our personal care products and supporting research and therapies for those battling Cancer right now.
