'Sua Sponte' is the regimental motto of Rangers. It means, "Of Their Own Accord."
Sua Sponte Washington is a team composed of Army Officers, former Rangers, and a Navy Corpsman. As a team, we wanted to do something bigger than ourselves. We wanted to participate in this event to raise awareness and support to all veterans. Moreover, we each have a memory of our fallen comrades, and that in itself is what drives us to run these 565 miles. For they never gave up on us...
Help support our cause by donating to our team. We will run/walk, bike, or swim 1 mile for every $5 donated until we reach our goal of $2,825.
$5 x 565 Miles = $2,825
If we make our goal, further donations will be welcomed and greatly appreciated. The set goal of Run Ranger Run is a total of $100,000.
***You can also make a contribution to a specific Team Member and suggest that ONLY they run the mile(s) donated in their name (that's always fun)***
Run Ranger Run Event
Our team will pledge to walk, run and/or bike a combined total of 565 miles in the month of February (28 days). Our team will raise funds for GallantFew and increase awareness for the stated veteran issues.
History of the Event
In 2012, 3rd Ranger Battalion veteran US Army Corporal Cory Smith, having deployed to combat twice, experienced having friends killed and wounded and with his own marriage failing decided to highlight the difficult journey home many soldiers have leaving the Army by undergoing a very public and very difficult journey home himself. Cory decided to run 565 miles in 28 days with holding his daughter Elleigh in his arms the end goal of his run.
As a Result
To honor Cory’s incredible effort and to continue the momentum to raise awareness for veterans issues – particularly around divorce, unemployment, homelessness and suicide – we are offering an annual Run Ranger Run event.
