Hello everyone! This is the donation page for my project examining the connection between substance abuse and mental illness in the Indian state of Gujarat as part of the MINDS foundation, a non-profit which aims to reduce stigma and improve treatment of mental illness in rural areas. Both mental illness and substance use, particularly alcohol (Gujarat is a dry state) are highly stigmatized in the rural villages the MINDS foundation is working in, and in December I will be traveling to these villages with MINDS to conduct research on the subject. Your donations will not only help fund my journey but help achieve the overall goals of the MINDS foundation. The MINDS foundation has already accomplished so much on a shoestring budget, and with your support the possibilities for education and treatment are literally endless. For better idea of what the MINDS foundation is trying to accomplish and the horrifying state of affairs in rural India, please look at the links below.
-Our non-profit's website! Please read! To learn more about who is part of MINDS (including our very impressive board), click the 'About' tab at the top of the screen.

What your donations will accomplish:
$50 funds an educational film screening to reduce stigma and encourage villagers to bring family members and loved ones to proper treatment, rather than resorting to local superstitions like 'faith healers' or simply sending them away.
$80 funds a psychiatrist to help diagnose patients for a whole month.
$200 funds an Indian social worker for a month, FULL TIME, to help spread the message of MINDS and work with locals.
$1000 funds a full YEAR of medication for a patient. When mental illness is caught early on (one of our main goals), a year of proper treatment including medication is often enough to halt the progress of the illness and allow the afflicted individual to re-join society.
