BENEFITING: WHITE MOUNTAIN COMMUNITY HEALTH CENTER
I LOVE working with teens! I love their energy, passion, honesty and openess along with their quest for knowledge about the things that interest them! I love their willingness to challenge the status quo and their willingness to help others by sharing their own experiences. I love witnessing their growth, am humbled by their experiences and in awe of their survival skills.
I love the current movement toward connecting science to spirituality .Trained as a pharmacist, I am a scientist. I have always been intrigued by the human brain, the heart, human behavior and how it's all connected. I am also an avid student of spirituality, quantum physics, the Law of Attraction and the power of the subconscious brain in health and healing.
I love my scientific background that gives me an understanding of the brain, specifically teen brain development, as well as a biological, physiological and behavioral understanding of adolescence. This background, combined with the one on one work I do with kids around teen pregnancy prevention, drop out prevention and substance use gives me a unique perspective about teens that simply must be incorporated into the education and training of ALL teachers and youth workers to maximize their ability to build rapport and facilitate success in teens.
I recently had the honor and privilege to attend Breakthrough to Success, a 7 day training with Jack Canfield, author of Chicken Soup for the Soul and The Success Principles for Adults and Success Principles for Teens. Jack is a master of success and his work is transformational! I came back driven to incorporate some of his work into my health classes at the middle and high school level. I am also using it individually in my work with pregnancy prevention as well as with court-involved kids, kids at risk of dropping out of high school, and kids with behavior and focus issues.
The feedback I am getting from kids about the content is amazing! I am convinced ... THIS WORK SIMPLY MUST BE BROUGHT TO TEENS ... using effective teachings methods and by educators who understand how to connect with adolescents!!!. It promotes healthy self esteem, a purpose-driven life and provides tools to break through limiting beliefs along with a proven system for success that will sustain for a lifetime!
My Project Goals:
1) Develop a curriculum for teens based on Jack's book "The Success Principles for Teens"
NOTE: I have been working with teens from a variety of academic, social and risk backgrounds and using this content for the past 5 months as part of classroom and community service work. I have received consistent feedback from teens that all teens need this information and that this material should be a classroom based curriculum beginning in in middle school and continuing through high school and even through college. I have also gathered feedback from teens as well as educators with regard to activities and teaching methods and techniques that would help teen assimilate this information and take it beyond the classroom. Finally, I have several teens and faculty who are involved in preliminary development of the concept proposal and are committed to this project.
2) Develop a Teacher & Youth Provider Training for educators and organizations who provide youth programs
3) Bring this information to schools, parents, educators and youth serving professionals across the country to enhance teen engagement in academic and vocational pursuits, service work and pursuit of personal goals and a life of purpose.
I am also pursuing grant opportunities and private funding to support this important work! I am also willing to barter Success Principles coaching and training to individuals, groups or businesses who support this project.
Thanks for your consideration!
