BENEFITING: American Foundation for Suicide Prevention
As a depression/anxiety-diagnosed 15 year old, life can be difficult at times. Sometimes you don't know what to say in social situations, sometimes every little thing gets to you, and sometimes, you just feel absolutely alone in the world. Things like these can really affect how you live, interact, feel, and think. For some people, it stops there, but for others, it gets a whole lot worse.
Suicide is, as of 2011, the tenth leading cause of death in the United States, with almost 40,000 lost in the same year alone. Now in the US, this may not seem like a huge number, nor does it seem like the kind of investment you'd like to spend money on, and I get that. But as you know, even things like this get to Hollywood.
Robin Williams, comedian and later actor in Aladdin, Jumanji, Good Will Hunting, among others, died just the day before this post was created. This is a major shock, and my deepest sorrow goes to both his family and anyone who knew him.
After being in two mental hospitals, having someone I knew die of this reason, and now this, I decided these people need the help they deserve. All I need is your help. Together, we can shed new light on mental illness, helping to create better medicine, more help for those in need, and the knowledge to make this all happen. I realize that we will never be able to completely rid this from the world, but at least we can give adults and teens like me something they need: a good, long, and bountiful life.
