This is a photo of Anchor the loggerhead sea turtle. Anchor was fished up, literally, in Canarsie. He is recovering from internal wounds caused by a fishing hook. He has had a few surgeries and still sufferes some side effects from his experience. We hope to one day release Anchor back out into the wild.
I volunteer at The Riverhead Foundation for Marine Research and Preservation. The Foundation works to rescue, rehabilitate and release back to the wild seals and marine mammals. I believe in the work that they do and its been an honor to work with them every week.
It costs around $6500 to rescue, rehab and release a seal or a turtle. I'd like to raise enough to offfset some of the expenses of just one.
