BENEFITING: ACADEMY PROJECT
EVENT DATE: Apr 01, 2018
It's hard to believe but it's almost time for Camp Xavier 3 at University of Southern California and UCLA!
Camp Xavier was a huge success last summer, due in no small part to you, our very generous supporters. Camp was even more transformational than we expected. When our kids came off the bus at the end of the week, they were so excited to share all of their adventures and all of the cool things they learned with their caregivers. BIg smiles and lots of yarn necklaces for all!
Camp Xavier has proven to be the highlight of the year for many of our campers and we have so many brothers and sisters of past campers who want to join us that we have doubled the number of campers to 40! Which means we need your support more than ever.
Thanks to the continued generosity of UCLA Unicamp, the cost to send a camper to a full week of summer camp in Bear Mountain, all expenses included (bus to and from, housing, food, activities, life changing experiences) is still only $300.
Unlike many programs, our target audience are those foster youth currently most at risk of not completing their high school diploma (as opposed to those demonstrating the most potential). We believe through community, empowerment and education, we can help set these children onto a path for success.
Most of our campers will have been through a lot; many never having left the city before, let alone had the kind of experience they'll have at camp. Think about what you'd pack for camp.... many foster youth don't have a sleeping bag or bathing suit. As well as supporting the costs of camp, your kind donations will also be going towards making sure they have everything they need and are ready for two jam packed weeks of fun!
Student’s will attend 5 days of day camp at USC, culminating in a 7 day sleep-away trip in the San Bernardino mountains, which we are wdelivering in partnership with the awesome UCLA Unicamp. Campers will participate in new and exciting activities that include:
- Mountain biking
- A challenge ropes course
- 50 foot Alpine Climbing Tower
- Arts and crafts
Thank you in advance for sending 20 deserving children to camp, and in supporting our movement to change outcomes for those foster youth in Los Angeles most in need to support!
