BENEFITING: FRANKLIN CENTER OF BEAVER COUNTY INC
As part of the Beaver County Youth Entrepreneurship Collaborative, Franklin Center offers the “Bluesky Biz Camp”™ and “Advanced Biz Camp” every summer. The Bluesky Biz Camp™ serves between 15 and 20 youth, and the Advanced Biz Camp also serves between 15 and 20 youth.
Bluesky Biz Camp is a six-week, 30 hour per week summer camp for first-year participants which bolsters math, reading, and communication skills through classroom instruction in math, basic economic principles, and group work and team building exercises. Students develop their own entrepreneurial ideas, learn to write business plans, and explore various business related life skills. The camp includes opportunities to visit local businesses, network with business leaders, and to participate in a business plan competition utilizing computer technology. This program serves 11-16 year olds.
The Advanced Biz Camp program is also a six week, 30 hour per week summer program which is open to students who have already completed a Bluesky Biz Camp, who have studied business in school, are academically advanced, or who are already running their own business. In addition to participating in field trips, presentations by speakers, and experiential activities, students further develop their entrepreneurial enterprises and write a more comprehensive business plan than in the introductory camp. Students also participate in a camp at the culmination of the program.
Both programs are offered on campus at the Community College. After they finish the summer program, students may choose to enroll in the Youth Business Incubator, and are eligible to particiapte in the George W. Tippins Regional Business Plan Competition in June.
