Summer for everyone
Organized by: Pei Yi
My name is Peiyi Woo. I am a Singaporean living in New York. I am currently a candidate for Masters of Science in Social Work at Columbia University. I am currently interning at Fletcher House, Project Renewal. Fletcher House is a Community Residence / Single Room Occupancy (CR/SRO) that serves a maximum capacity of 55 adults and the objective of the program is to help clients transit from chronic homelessness or long-term hospitalization to independent living. Most of the residents are around 45 - 60 years old and majority have never had stable housing in their lives. I have seen how some residents have attempted to write in to request for free entrance tickets (according to some of them, have attempted to write for years) to places of interests; places that you and I will not think twice about paying with the impending summer and amazing weather. Some of these places include the Bronx Botanical Gardens and Six Flag Great Adventure in New Jersey. I believe that summer should be shared by all and that our joy is doubled when we know someone with less is enjoying their summer because we contributed to it. I will start the ball rolling by contributing $50 and I hope that you can join me in making this summer a summer for all. I also welcome ideas on how I can help make summer a happy summer for the residents.
