BENEFITING: Urban Blazers Foundation
#GoClimbATree. Post a photo on social media. Challenge Friends to #GoClimbATree. And don't forget to donate to Urban Blazers to make Earth Day 2015 about inspiring the next generation to #GoClimbATree!
Put down the shovel and #GoClimbATree this Earth Day. Don’t get us wrong. We LOVE that so many trees are planted each year to celebrate Earth Day. Really. We do. Keep planting trees! We’ve planted a few ourselves. But this Earth Day we’re asking you to put down the shovel for a few minutes, #GoClimbATree and remind the world(your social media world that is) why you fell in love with trees in the first place- They’re fun! While you’re doing it take a selfie or have a friend take your picture and challenge friends to #GoClimbATree. Then, when you're safely on the ground, make a donation to Urban Blazers that will plant a seed for the next generation of tree lovers and environmentalists. Your donation will ensure that future generations understand the importance of planting trees on Earth Day and grow into environmentally conscious adults. Donations directly support fun experiences in nature that teach kids growing up in under resourced urban neighborhoods to love and respect the natural world. What are you waiting for #GoClimbATree!
Philadelphia is home to the largest urban park system in the country. Many of the most beautiful and underutilized natural parks are located only a short walk or ride on public transportation from large populations of youth growing up in neighborhoods with high rates of crime and poverty as well as limited recreational opportunities. We need your help as we continue to activate newly reclaimed natural areas with young people in need of healthy, positive recreational opportunities. Our programs help turn young people into life long lovers of the natural world with your donations of as little as $5 for one day on trail. We keep costs low and impact high thanks to extremely well qualified and trained interns and volunteers and easy access to trails. We operate under three basic and all encompassing rules: Respect Yourself. Respect Others. Have Fun. We learn to safely climb trees. Identify edible plants(and eat a ton of wild berries!). Splash in creeks. Skip rocks. Catch crayfish. Catch frogs. Nature combined with imagination is the best playground!
Are your tree climbing days over? Double your donation and we will find a student or teacher to climb a tree for you or just show a tree some love with a hug!
Tips for Climbing Trees: Tree climbing can be dangerous if not done thoughtfully. Climb at your own risk. Avoid having all of your weight on a single limb. Think about how you will get down as you are going up. Climbing down is generally a safer option to jumping out of the tree. Never use dead limbs to support weight and avoid limbs that bend or bow under your weight.
