THE STORY:

Yalda A wrote -

As many of you know, I began the Zabiullah Asmatey Memorial Scholarship soon after my father passed away in April 2008. The scholarship is set up through my old school district in Union City, CA and is awarded to at least one graduating senior from James Logan High School.

Over the years this scholarship fund has presented students with the financial support to help pay for the ever-increasing costs associated with pursuing higher education. In addition I have served as a mentor to these students, many of whom continue to stay in touch.

This year I wanted to do things differently. You have all heard the saying "action speaks louder than words." Well, that's exactly what this fundraiser is all about. Jonathan and I, and of course Aayenda, will run a 5k throughout the streets of Corvallis, Oregon on Saturday, October 25th, 2014 to help raise money for the scholarship.

Many of you have generously donated to this scholarship in the past, and for the next academic year, I wanted to challenge myself and raise more than I have ever done before--$5,000!

If you are in a position to do so, please support this scholarship fund to continue to keep alive my father's dreams of building community, promoting academic excellence, and cultivating dialogue. And in this way, we will continue to encourage young adults with their dreams and goals!

If you would like to join us on the run and/or want to come out and support the team, just let me know. Thank you! Let's spread the word too!
