Supplies for Students
Organized by: Peter Morville
Hello! I'm Claire Morville. I'm hoping you'll help us to raise money to buy supplies for students in Belize.
I'm a junior at Skyline High in Ann Arbor, and this summer I went on a school trip to Belize, where we visited St. Francis Xavier elementary school in Esperanza Village. We met the principal, Catherine Welch. We spent time in class during a lesson and played soccer with the students.
We had fun but were shocked by the differences between schools in the United States and Belize. There is no air conditioning. There aren't enough pencils or markers. They don't have soccer goals. And, there's a sign in the class that reads: $1 to use the bathroom for a week.
I'm hoping to raise $1,000 to buy supplies. I've been in contact with the principal to understand their needs. My plan is to buy pens, pencils, paper, markers, and calculators, and ship them directly to the school. If we exceed our goal, we'll also buy maps, books, fans, laptops, projectors, and maybe even some soccer goals.
Please help us to help these students by giving what you can and by telling your friends about this campaign.
Update: We've posted a couple of new photos taken with the digital camera we sent; including one of the students holding some of their new supplies. Thanks again for your support. We couldn't have done it without you!
