While other educational support charities in Guatemala provide support for children to attend the substandard Guatemalan “public” schools. We provide scholarships and support for a World Class College-Prep STEM School to educate underserved Guatemalan children in a U.S.-based English Language Curriculum. All donations go towards scholarships, supplies, and operating costs for the school. Our goal is to empower local Guatemalan kids to get a university education and to return to Guatemala where they can bring their new skills to provide leadership and change. The school is located in the Lake Atitlan region of the Guatemalan Highlands. Here is what some of our graduates write about their goals for the region: • To create better opportunities for students who live around Lake Atitlan and to address the issue of cyanobacteria in the Lake as it is a problem that affects us both socially and environmentally. • To help create a network that aids bright like-minded individuals in all professional areas. • To restore the Culture and Ecology in the Lake Atitlan Region. • To return and share all of the experiences I have learned throughout my life. • To contribute to the decline of malnutrition and growth stunting in indigenous children, to raise awareness for the necessary protection from poachers of endangered animals around the lake, and to be a positive effect on our lake's health. • To educate myself and eventually return to the Atitlan Community, conveying my knowledge and personal experience in order empower the Indigenous community and improve the well-being of Lake Atitlan. • To help preserve the balance between humanity and nature by mitigating the issues of climate change through environmental awareness and action. • To increase access to, and quality of, healthcare. This is an example of how far reaching the change can be that results from supporting this cause.
