Newcomers Welcome Week Kicks Off Today
August 21, 2017

Starting formal schooling is an important event for all students and parents. For young children who are English Language Learners (ELLs), this event can come with a mixture of excitement and stress that can affect participation and achievement in the crucial first weeks of school. Therefore, it is a transition that needs careful planning and attention.
Additionally, schools can also be surprisingly intimidating places for many parents. Parents of ELLs may have experienced a very different school setting, and may therefore be unfamiliar with the school environment.
Hampstead Hill Academy will provide a summer orientation for new English Language Learners (ELLs) and their families enrolling in Prekindergarten and Kindergarten.
This orientation, which will take place from August 21-25, is designed to make the transition easier for ELLs who have been in U.S. schools for one year or less and who have very limited to no English language skills.
Students and their parents will attend a 2-hour Hampstead Hill Academy overview/tour and four 2-hour English Language Introduction classes.
Please help us start our new ELL families on the pathway to success.
