Support Kasey's Mental Health Recovery
Organized by: Kasey M
My name is Kasey and I have bipolar disorder.
I’m also a book artist, a dog parent, and a health care professional. My bipolar is only one piece of who I am, but it can have a big impact.
Recently, I got a sinus infection and missed a couple days of work. Normally this is a slight bump in the road that is easy to recover from, but this time was different for me. The antibiotics they gave me to treat the sinus infection made my bipolar medication temporarily ineffective. The combination of medication interaction and environmental stress triggered a depressive episode.
I took myself to a walk-in psychiatric clinic. I've been in a short-term outpatient hospitalization program for a week and a half now, spending six hours a day in intensive group and individual therapy and having my medication monitored. Most likely, I’ll be in the program for three to four more days.
Part of this process has meant missing work.
Because I just started a new job in December, I’m not eligible for paid sick time. I’m also racking up hospital and doctors’ bills, filling prescriptions, and incurring other costs to get and stay healthy.
This is why I am turning to my communities for help. I can’t support myself financially during this time and that added stress is itself a barrier to my recovery. Without financial support, I feel scared, anxious, and overwhelmed. My goal is to raise $3,700 to pay for walk-in clinic bills, hospital fees, prescriptions, rent, groceries, gas money, and dog food.
I want to focus on getting better. Your gift will help me get there. Any contribution, no matter the amount, is a huge step forward for me. Both the financial and emotional security of your support mean so much. I am on a journey of learning to love myself, of letting love into my life, of asking for and receiving help. Thank you for helping me get back to my daily life.
