Support Local Anti-Racist Youth Organizing
Organized by: Rachel Krow-Boniske
Hello! We are so excited to announce the launch of White Anti-Racist Youth in Solidarity (WAYS), an anti-racist political education and action program for white youth in the Bay Area. The formation of WAYS began in 2015 as a new iteration of the work done by Y-Step: Youth Step Towards Addressing Racism, a program that ran from 2003-2011. With the recently heightened visibility of racist police violence and increased popularity of conversations about white privilege, both of which are due in part to the work and leadership of young activists of color, we came together around our shared belief in the importance of working with white youth through anti-racist political education. We’re excited to share our launch with you and to ask for your support in turning our vision and work into a reality.
Over the past 18 months, I’ve worked with two other incredible women, Rachel and Marlee, to conduct outreach with local racial justice organizations working with youth of color to assess the need and form of the program. From these guiding questions and conversations, we moved forward in developing our pedagogical approach, writing curriculum, and building a program to engage white youth in study, reflection, and action towards racial justice. For more information, please read our mission and vision below.
Currently, we’re leading one-time workshops with different local schools and organizations, and are conducting outreach for a more intensive ten-part series that will run from January-May. In order to make this program possible, we’re asking for support from our community. Additionally, as we see all of our work in vision and following the leadership of black and people of color led anti-racist work and particularly youth-led organizing, all donations will be split with __________. ____________ does ____________.
Can you support us by donating $____ or an amount that is meaningful to you? In order to make a donation, please go to ___________. You can also see our wishlist at ____________.
If you’re interested in learning more about or work, joining our team, bringing us to your school or organization, and/or know of young people who may be interested in participating, please contact us at NAME@gmail.com.
Thank you so much. Love, Rachel
Mission Statement: Y-Step is an anti-racist education program for primarily white high school-aged youth. Our program encourages youth to engage in personal reflection, develop an intersectional anti-racist analysis and support people of color led movements for racial and economic justice. Our program offers tools for youth to:
- Build historical and political analysis of racism, capitalism, sexism, and their intersections
- Challenge ideas and behaviors that are shaped by being white in the US
- Confront white supremacy internally and in our families and communities,
- Support youth of color led organizing
Our vision is to inspire young white folks to educate themselves, engage with others, and invest in accountable anti-racist work. We envision a future in which more and more young white people join anti-racist movements for resistance and liberation with a sense of humility and a commitment to justice.
