BENEFITING: SHROPSHIRE MUSIC FOUNDATION
EVENT DATE: Jun 19, 2017
The Shropshire Music Foundation is teaching children peace through music in countries around the world. Beginning on June 20, World Refugee Day, donations on CrowdRise will support SMF's music programs for Syrian refugees in Greece!
At refugee camps in Greece, SMF teaches youth to be leaders as they work with young children in music classes. The teenagers become music teachers and leaders in their camps. The children are provided with a fun and safe activity that gives them ownership over their learning, and in turn, their lives. The Shropshire Music Foundation's programs around the world are providing instruments and musical instruction to children and youth affected by cultural prejudice, extreme violence, and more.
The Shropshire Music Foundation develops youth leadership and capacity for peacemaking and problem-solving in global conflict zones through the establishment of locally-run, youth-led music education programs. These programs provide local children opportunities for education, trauma relief, expression, and creativity and local teenagers opportunities to develop leadership, teaching, and expressive skills, to become role models in their communities, to access broader opportunities for education, and to reduce vulnerability to extremist group participation.
SMF helps children and young people in conflict zones build leadership, peacemaking skills, and resilience to extremism through grassroots music education.
