BENEFITING: SISTERS SAVING THE CITY INC
Sisters Saving the City is a faith-based organization committed to bringing quality “out of school time” programming to youth aged 14-21 in northwest Baltimore City. Our mission is to empower urban youth to become positive and productive members of their community and to realize and step into their greatness.
This summer, Sisters Saving the City has partnered with Baltimore City’s YouthWorks program and hired 36 youth from the Park Heights community. Unfortunately, due to delays in the delivery of overhead funding from other sources, we are in dire need of immediate operational funds to pay our summer instructors for their excellent leadership. The YouthWorks program is currently paying the salaries of our YouthWorkers; these youths are hired to apprentice for a Science Technology Engineering Art and Math (STEAM) program led by four highly qualified and deeply dedicated individuals, plus a dedicated cohort of volunteers.
Under the leadership of our excellent summer instructors, our YouthWorkers are creating videos and websites representing the challenges they face daily in Baltimore. They are also creating a life size board game with characters portraying the obstacles they must get around to survive in their communities.
Because of Sisters Saving the City, our 36 YouthWorkers will leave the summer with a deep knowledge of STEAM concepts, more interested and engaged in STEAM, and more motivated to apply their new knowledge in their communities and the world at large, all the while improving their interpersonal skills and practicing healthy social behavior.
Please consider making a donation to Sisters Saving the City today so that we can continue to operate throughout the summer and change the future of the Park Heights community.
