About 20 people are physically abused every minute. During one year, this equates to more than 10 million women and men. 1 in 3 women and 1 in 4 men have been victims of [some form of] physical violence by an intimate partner within their lifetime. 1 in 15 children are exposed to intimate partner violence each year, and 90% of these children are eyewitnesses to this violence Domestic victimization is correlated with a higher rate of depression and suicidal behavior. SAFE is on the front lines, offering services to those who need it most. SAFE works to ensure that abusers will be held accountable for their actions, and that services will be available for all domestic violence victims, regardless of gender, sexual orientation, age, or ethnicity. Education is an important aspect of our work. Educating the general public, health organizations, criminal justice agencies, service providers, as well as training of community leaders.
