Support 4 Sierra
Organized by: Brittani Mcbride
A member of The Right Hair Salon family, Sierra Santell, discovered on August 20th, 2014 that she has a tumor in her brain.
On October 16th, Sierra had a surgery to biopsy and removed as much of the tumor as possible.
Going into the surgery they were under the impression she had one of two types of tumors. As a result we learned it was neither type A nor type B. They were also hoping to be able to remove the entire mass, but unfortunately they were unable to remove a portion of it due to the fact that it is attached in a way that might compromise her quality of life.
A week after her initial surgery, she was re-hospitalized because of a surgery related kidney malfunction. The kidney was not speaking to the brain properly and was holding too much water, while telling her that she needed more water, which in turn, was flushing out the fluids that she needed to recover. She is now home and recuperating from both, but the process of recovery has been longer and far more costly then anticipated.
After Sierra's first MRI check up on November 22nd with her neurosurgeon they received the unfortunate news that the tumor is growing back and this time in a different form and at a much more aggressive rate. This is going to require an additional surgery on Tuesday, December 9th so they can biopsy the new growth to see what it is. This will then be followed by perhaps radiation or another surgery depending on the results of the pathology report.
We have created this Fundraiser because we would like to try and offer as much support as we can to Sierra in this time of need. We would like to try to help pay for some of her medical expenses and help her be able to take the time off work for her proper recovery. Anything is appreciated, even a simple get-well note or well wishes.
She is keeping a blog to help update friends and family, for a better understanding please take a minute to read through her journey: http://meandmytumor.tumblr.com/
