My name is Dan White and I am competing in the 2015 Lavaman Triathlon in Waikoloa, HI on Sunday, March 29th to benefit my son's non-profit organization, Young Pioneer Disaster Response (YPDR). I am 61 years young and this is my first triathlete event, which came about by me watching others that inspired me enough to challenge myself to go for it.
My eldest son Christopher went to the Philippines and began disaster response and recovery work as a volunteer on Bantayan Island after Typhoon Haiyan in 2013 and has worked tirelessly ever since to help. Chris is the CEO and Co-founder of YPDR, which has built over 960 homes and rehabilitated 19 classrooms and built a brand new 3 classroom building in areas affected by natural disaster. They continue to build homes, run livelihood programs, conduct marine restoration efforts, and provide emergency response services for people in need. The impact that they have had on the local communities is truly amazing. Visit www.ypdr.org to check out their work. YPDR's results speak for themselves.
My goal is to finish the 40k bike ride, 1500m ocean swim, and 10k run in under 4 hours. All contributions to this fundraiser will go to YPDR. Please support me as I run, swim, and bike myself to exhaustion to support my son's fantastic work helping people affected by natural disaster and climate change. Your contribution will go directly towards building homes and sponsoring livelihoods for the people who need them most!
