BENEFITING: HEALTHY SCHOLARS FOUNDATION
A few months ago I joined the Healthy Scholars Foundation, with the intention of contributing towards understanding the impact of lifestyle changes and medical treatment on a child's ability to get a good education. A project that we are currently working on is providing basic health education and access to medical care for students in the rural town of Varni, India.
This holiday season, I'm asking for your help in providing this medical care to students who otherwise would not have this opportunity. For just $10 you can sponsor a student to receive an examination that includes vision, hearing, and lifestyle assessment. And to show how serious I am about this project, I will run a mile for every $10 donated to this fundraiser. As many of you may know...running is my least favorite form of activity, but I'm willing to bear the treadmill and the snow and rain for this cause (not all at once, 40 miles would be a lot for this poor chap)!
We'll also be doing work in schools and with teachers and parents, interviewing and discovering the attitudes and stories behind school success and school failure. So your support has an ongoing impact, by helping us to understand the impact of simple lifestyle changes and medical treatment on a child's ability get a modern education. This information will become part of an international effort, both in the US and abroad, to help create curriculum and resources for parents and teachers to address the physical roots of underperformance in school.
If you want to help out even more, feel free to pass this on to anyone else who you think might be interested. Come back to this page for updates on my miles too!
