After Hurricane Matthew roared through Haiti causing widespread destruction, the island nation has been left in disrepair. Officials say Matthew killed about 500 people while unofficial reports put the death toll closer to 900. The second massive natural disaster in less than 10 years after the 2010 earthquake that left 200,000 dead, Matthew has left Haiti in desperate need of aid. The United Nations is appealing for $120 million to fund recovery programs that could rebuild infrastructure and fight the spread of disease like cholera, but more aid will be needed.
