THE STORY:

Dr. Mohamed Abou ElNaga, one of Ashoka's Fellows, founded a paper making centre in old Coptic Cairo in 2005 under the umbrella of his organization El Nafeza. Until now we have trained 150 trainees, most of them women, and especially those with hearing and speaking disabilities show great skills in training and working. Additionally we're trying to spread the idea of making handmade paper using low-cost techniques throughout different communities in Egypt, especially the agricultural communities responsible for the yearly rice straw burnings that cause a 'black cloud' to hover over Egypt every October. We have now more than 25 special trainers working on establishing hand made paper centers in various places in Egypt. Now we need everybody's support to continue to have it open and so the workers, mostly young challenged people, don't lose their jobs
