Supporting Letty's Family
Organized by: Leticia Velazquez
My name is Leticia Velazquez and I'm the mother of Letty. On July 10th, 2016 our family was about to spend a beautiful day at the beach but instead it turned into a nightmare. As we started taking things out of the car, our daughter took off her sandals and ran to the sand, but because it was hot she stepped on a big sandy dark spot thinking it was going to be cooler. She then realized It was burning hot charcoals that someone had left there. We heard a scream and ran towards her immediately but the damage was already done. We picked her up and carried her to the car. My other daughter and husband went to get the Beach Rescue, called 911 and then Letty was transferred to the Hospital 2 hours away from Jacksonville FL. My daughter suffered from second and third degree burns on the bottom of her feet. She went through a lot of pain and spent an entire month without walking. We had to take her to the Hospital on a regular basis for deep cleanings and dressing changes. Because our daughter was unable to walk and do the things she would normally do, we stayed home almost the entire time to take care of her and as a result we lost most of our wages. Now that our daughter is almost recovered, we went back to work and have tried to pay as much as we can but we are still behind and struggling trying to bring current our most important bills. When a friend of mine told me about this website and what people do for others, I decided to share what we are going through hoping that we could receive the support that we need. I would greatly appreciate any help that you can give us. It will mean everything to us and if you can not donate, please share. Thank you in advance for your thoughtfulness and generosity. Sincerely, Leticia.
