My name is Maya Spector and I am a junior in high school from New Jersey. For a couple of years now, I have been joining my mom on two week medical missions, and over these years I have developed a strong relationship with the community in Belize. As a result of this strong connection, I wanted to give back to the community; I recognized the poverty filled streets and the many kids not attending school due to insufficient funds. So, I partnered with a scholarship fund in Punta Gorda, Belize, dedicated to providing poor kids with the ability to attend high school. Through my Indiegogo fundraisers, I have been able to generate over $7,000, with the generous help of my donors, giving me the ability to provide 5 kids with three years of high school education, 1 kid with two years of high school education, and 7 kids with one year of education, so far. Recently, my partner from Belize contacted me and gave me an opportunity of a lifetime; to try to raise enough money to build a much needed classroom in a high school. I have met with the principal of Julian Cho Technical High School, which is where I would love to allocate the funds we raise. The school is overpopulated and kids are taught outside in the pouring rain due to the overcrowding. With your help, we can make a difference in this school and provide these kids with shelter and a safe place to learn.
