n the fall of 2010, backed by full commitment from LAUSD and a group of highly dedicated parents, Principal Susan Wang launched the Mandarin Immersion Program at Broadway Elementary with two kindergarten classes. Due to our teachers’ high expectations and commitment to maintaining fully immersive classroom environments, students began absorbing Mandarin very quickly. Parents and observers were so impressed with the children’s rapid progress and enthusiasm that by the second year, demand for the program rose dramatically. The MI Program doubled the number of entering kindergarteners the following fall and plans to continue enrolling four kindergarten classes each year. The elementary program will mature through Grade 5 in 2015-2016 school year.
In 2016-2017 school year, the Mandarin Immersion program in LAUSD West will be expanding to include another K-5 program at Braddock Drive Elementary School. The first graduating class from Broadway Elementary Mandarin Immersion program will matriculate to Mark Twain Middle School attending 6th Grade.
DragonSprouts is committed to continuing support of the Mandarin Immersion programs at these school locations.
