Support Kristi Butterfield's Fight Against Colon Cancer
Organized by: Leah Greenstein Ferrazzani
Update: As of July 31, 2014, Kristi is cancer free! Thank you to everyone who helped her along the way!
I've known Kristi Butterfield for more than 20 years. She is one of the most loving, compassionate and generous people I've ever come across. At the end of 2013, just after giving birth to a new baby boy, she was hospitalized for a colon blockage. During the surgery the doctors found a tumor, which they later determined was Stage 2a colon cancer. Fortunately, they were able to completely remove the tumor, but the doctors also suspect that she has Lynch Syndrome (though they haven't confirmed it because her insurance won't pay for the blood work), which puts her at a much greater risk of developing other cancers, including ovarian, stomach, gallbladder, liver and more. She is currently undergoing a preventative round of chemotherapy to ensure that the colon cancer doesn't return, and to potentially knock out other cancers that might be lurking.
In addition to kicking cancer's ass, Kristi is a single mother of four beautiful kids: Kaylea (14), Ashlyn (11), Alyssa (7) and baby Wyatt (5 months). As you can imagine, this in itself is an expensive proposition, not including medical bills. So I'm asking for your help--to lighten Kristi's load a bit--by contributing whatever you can to help her cover medical and day-to-day expenses during this trying time. Ask your friends too. And have them ask their friends. Because we're all at risk. Just one crazy cell away from this being our battle too.
