THE STORY:

        *UPDATE* 05/18/2015

For those of us counting, today is the fourth week since Shawn's heart attack, and thankfully he is still with us and recovering well. Although he prefers not to show it, Shawn has a long road ahead, still very weak, but indomitable as ever. He's walking, talking, and really hopes he'll be allowed to drive again soon. For all of you who have donated here, helped them at home, came and visited at the hospital or otherwise showed your support, please don't be surprised if you receive a Thank You card from Angela in the near future. She may or may not have designed them herself, she's quite the artist. Thank you all.

        *UPDATE* 04/28/2015

Shawn is home! While he is still restricted to bed rest, Shawn is back home and happy to be there. Angela describes it as "weird," being home again after a week of sleeping in hospital chairs, but Shawn is all too eager to be back where he belongs. Thank you all for continuing to show your love and support as he slowly finds his way back to health.

        *UPDATE* 04/24/2015

We are happy to say, and very thankful, that Shawn is now free of (almost) all the equipment that has been keeping him with us for the past week. Currently he is quite happy to be able to eat again, and although he is still incredibly weak, his doctors say it is possible he may go home after another week of hospital care. I don't need to repeat how wonderful this is, or how unprecedented this kind of recovery is. Thank you all.

         *UPDATE* 04/22/2015

Shawn is currently concious, and now breathing without the aid of a respirator for the first time in three days. His doctors had originally estimated having him off of it well before this, so it has been an especially tense day, watching him struggle to breathe on his own. Thank you all for all of your love and prayers, the outpouring of support has been overwhelming. To the entire hospital staff, to friends, family and those of you who have never even met him, you have all of our thanks. Shawn's recovery thus far has been miraculous, and we owe a great deal of it to the wonderful people who continue to uphold him with their kindness.

We all know Shawn Willson. Whether it is through his community involvement, his work as a marriage and family therapist, coaching baseball, the reclaimed wood crafts, his constant presence at Simi Valley Days and the Strathearn Ghost Tours, or just seeing him down at League night, everyone knows Shawn. Shawn, his wife Angela and their four children are lifelong residents of Simi Valley, and are constantly engaged in just about every extra curricular or after school activity you can imagine. The few and far between who don't know Shawn are always swayed by his laid-back cowboy charm, his sparkling intelligence and his boyish sense of humor. Shawn is a remarkable man, and has enriched the lives of so many people, it makes the latest turn of events all that much more difficult.
For those of you who don't know, Shawn just suffered a major heart attack, a month after his 44th birthday. Currently in critical condition, Shawn had two blocked arteries, and had to undergo an emergency angioplasty to restore blood flow, saving his life, but leaving him hospitalized and under heavy sedation. Angela has been by his side since driving him to the hospital herself, as friends and family have watched children, couriered food, fresh clothes and the heartfelt wishes of friends to and from the hospital. It has been an ordeal for everyone, as we all hope Shawn wakes up to this world as wonderful as he had left it.
Angela has taken a leave of absence from her work, and Shawn has a lengthy recovery ahead of him. These events are already taking their toll on Angela, after several sleepless nights in the ICU, and the potential financial hardships are looming on the horizon, between medical bills, four children and time taken from Shawn's career. Anything offered can help, and those of us who have truly appreciated what Shawn has given to all of us over the years hope that you can show him the same appreciation.
