Nancy Powers is a gifted and dedicated violin teacher. She has nurtured, challenged and cheered on hundreds of students in her 30+ years of teaching. Currently, Nancy works with young musicians in the Saginaw Township Schools Elementary Strings program, Saginaw Bay Symphony Orchestra Youth Strings Program, Mount Pleasant High School Orchestra, and Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp, all while maintaining her own private Suzuki violin studio.
In May, Nancy was diagnosed with an aggressive form of breast cancer and began treatment shortly after. Though insurance pays a large percentage of the medical bills, the costs of treatment are still high. And because she has taken temporary leave from all teaching posts, she will not have the same income she usually relies on.
To support Nancy, the friends of the Suzuki Studio of Mt. Pleasant are hosting a “Pancake Playathon” fundraiser in her honor. On June 28, 2014, friends and family will gather for a pancake brunch while her students play through their entire repertoire! Please consider making a pledge to a playathon participant, which will motivate Nancy's students practice, progress, and give them an important role in our fundraiser.
All proceeds from the event will go to Nancy to help cover her living and medical expenses. Her goal is to stay positive, heal quickly, and be at her daughter's wedding in August!
