Dear family, friends, colleagues and others:
As many of you know, I come from former Yugoslavia, located in the Balkan Peninsula. In the Balkan peninsula three months' worth of rain fell on the region in three days, producing the worst floods since rainfall measurements began 120 years ago. To us Calgarians, this is a flashback and reminder of 2013 floods. The same hardship and trauma we have experienced in Calgary 2013 floods, people in the Balkans are going through same experiences . The diffirence, however, is the amount of resources available. Recently, Serbia and Bosnia has been a victim of a civil war where as Calgary is a flourishing city. Unfortunately, the people in the Balkan Peninsula do not have the resources and access to finances that Calgary did. Personally, I have family affected directly by the flood.
My goal is to raise funds for flood relief in Serbia and Bosnia. I will be running a half marathon on June 1st, 2014 for the cause.
When donating please let me know if your donation is to support flood relief in Serbia, Bosnia or both. Monies dedicated to Serbia will be donated to Novak Djokovic Foundation (http://www.novakdjokovicfoundation.org/donate.12.html) and monies dedicated to Bosnia will be donated to Red Cross (http://www.ifrc.org/en/what-we-do/where-we-work/europe/red-cross-society-of-bosnia-and-herzegovina-/). Monies donated to both, will be split 50% between the two.
I have support from Father Obdan Filipovic, head Priest of Serbian Orthodox Church - St. Simeon Mirotocivi, and the Serbian Orthodox Church will be issuing tax receipts to all donors. All the monies will be donated to St. Simeon Mirotocivi church and the list of donors will be passed with the monies so that tax receipts can be issued. The Serbian Orthodox Church will then donate the monies to the Novak Djokovic Foundation and Red Cross Society of Bosnia and Horzogivina, mentioned above.
Any questions or concerns please contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Much thanks, Milan.
