BENEFITING: ED SNIDER YOUTH HOCKEY FOUNDATION
In 2005, Comcast- Spectacor Chairman and Flyers Founder, Ed Snider, created the Ed Snider Youth Hockey Foundation for inner-city children. Since the Foundation’s inception, 2,500 children have been introduced to the game of hockey. Beyond the rink, Snider Hockey has united communities, provided academic support and given many children opportunities for a brighter future.
Participation with Snider Hockey can now double with the opening of 3 renovated city-owned ice rinks that are fully enclosed and operational year-round. Snider Hockey, largely through a personal commitment by Ed Snider, contributed $6.5 million to match a grant from the Commonwealth’s Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program. This unprecedented public/private partnership resulted in a $13 million restoration project to preserve after-school, recreational, and supplemental educational activities for children, youth, and families in the City of Philadelphia.
Besides the Laura Sims Skate House in West Philadelphia, the other two rinks being fully enclosed are the Scanlon Ice Rink in the Kensington neighborhood of Philadelphia, and the Simons Rink in West Oak Lane-section of Philadelphia. Similar renovations are scheduled to commence in April 2012 as part of this project at the Tarken Ice Rink in Oxford Circle and the Rizzo Rink in South Philadelphia.
There is still a lot of work to do and we need your help. Give and help us purchase much needed hockey gear and children's book to help our kids on and off the ice.
Donate to the boys and girls of the Ed Snider Youth Hockey Foundation and bring the joy of hockey to inner-city youth. Donations by check, payable to “Ed Snider Youth Hockey Foundation,” can be sent to
