THE STORY:

Jeff Lichon was injured in an automobile accident on April 26, 1994 when he accepted an offer from a friend to hop in the bed of a pickup truck to get a ride home from playing basketball at a mutual friend's house. What Lichon did not realize is that the new driver would wind up losing control of the vehicle just a few houses down as the result of careless driving and would end up hitting a tree, changing Lichon's life forever. Lichon hasn't let his spinal cord injury stop him from living life to the fullest. In fact, in 2010, after attending the Vancouver Paralympic Games, Lichon decided it was time to put his vision into action and start a foundation to help researchers find a cure for spinal cord injury and disease as well as help children who have spinal cord injuries get back into doing the activities that are so critical to their personal and social development again - being a kid. The Jeff Lichon Spinal Cord Injury Foundation hosts an annual golf outing in Saginaw, Michigan, where Lichon grew up, and is halfway to establishing a $100,000 endowment with Central Michigan University's Neuroscience Program to perpetuate annual scholarships for research students who are doing important work that is contributing to a cure for spinal cord injury. JLSCIF also provides grants to children who need equipment such as wheelchairs and adaptive sports equipment, which often times costs several thousand dollars, and who do not have the money or insurance to pay for it, thus allowing them to not have to worry about HOW they are going to go on being a kid again, but WHERE they are going to experience their next adventure skiing, playing wheelchair basketball or hunting and fishing. From the bottom of our hearts, JLSCIF asks that you help us realize Jeff's vision to reverse the effects of spinal cord injury and disease, and donate whatever you are able to our cause. It is appreciated. For more information, visit www.lichonspinalfoundation.org.
