Around the world there are many communities where children live with no guidance and corruption linger. Being someone who has been in a similar situation I have made it my goals to help the children, all with the help of surfing. Surfing is has been my outlet and teacher in life, and has showed me even though you get dealt a bad hand of cards, you have the ability to control your own destiny. Therefore, I have made it my mission to help communities aspire to something greater through the use of surfing.
Beginning in December, I am setting out on a four month mission to Morocco, South Africa and India, I call Surf 2 Inspire; a mission where surfing is used as a development tool towards youth in underprivileged areas to help create a bright future for themselves and their community. For the first two weeks in a country, I work with non-profits along the coast; getting to know the culture, working with the community to help build a solid heathy foundation for the community and teach the children to be inspirational leaders. From there, using the contacts I have made, I travel to a community in desperate need of help along the coast and set up a surf program to help
This consists of:
• Taking the kids surfing daily
• Working with the children to clean up their community
• Teach the children about farming and healthy eating habits
• Show them how to respect the earth and recycle
• Set up educational games that turn the kids into leaders
Towards the end of my mission, I work with the children to build a surf club so the children have a place to keep their surfing gear, but also, to be used as a safe haven to for the children to get away from all the negativity going on in their own life.
