The Surf Checker Project
Organized by: Jer McGoo
Lets turn this ugly stolen battery thing into something positive for the community!
After posting fliers about the stolen battery, i received a handful of calls from people wanting to help me get a new one. Well, i bought a new one right away, just had to dip into my savings. I'm just one person though. Why stop there? We can do this for other people!
Rewind to a about six months ago: My friend and i came up with something and now i cannot imagine life without it. It extends my range and creates a freedom i have lived without since i've been in a wheelchair. It is a motorized wheelchair attachment and we call it The Surf Checker.
The key is that it attaches and detaches easily to/from my everyday wheelchair. I can zoom down to the store, a friends house or anywhere and i'm not stuck in some other awkward piece of equipment. I don't need to struggle through some arduous workout to just run a quick errand or zip down and check the surf. I simply detach it, lock it up outside and go about my business. Life changed.
Its electric. Its green. Its lower cost compared to other "similar" power attachments because it's based on accessible mass produced bicycle components, not proprietary expensive parts. Simplicity in design for lighter weight and lower cost.
We want to make these for other people and you can help. It's still in the R&D phase and with a little cash we can get it to the point where others can be Surf Checking around too. Hopefully we can raise enough to finish the design and make some to give to a couple deserving individuals.
