Surfing for Hope will take place on October 3rd and 4th, 2014, in Avila Beach and Pismo Beach, California.
This event is designed to help inspire people challenged by cancer through the positive energy of surfing. Surfing is the ideal format to help people in this situation by showing how positive and healthful our sport is and it gives the surfing community the opportunity to give back to people in need by sharing what we love.
All proceeds from Surfing for Hope will benefit the Hearst Cancer Resource Center (HCRC) at French Hospital Medical Center in San Luis Obispo, California, a not-for-profit hospital. Since 2012, this event has raised more than $100,000 for the HCRC and the Center’s Angel of Hope Fund, which proceeds financial assistance to cancer patients.
The event will begin on Friday, October 3rd with a memorial paddle out at Avila Beach to honor friends and loved ones who have lost their battle with cancer. After the paddle out, a Benefit Reception featuring foods and wines of the Central Coast and an auction will take place at the breathtaking Avila Beach Golf Resort.
On Saturday, October 4th, a Longboard Surf Contest and Family Fun Fair will be held at the Pismo Beach pier. The contest will be open to all ages from children up with a variety of divisions. The Fair will include family friendly activities, food vendors, and live music, as well as special vendors that support, educate and help people who are going through the cancer experience.
Members of the local community have come together with French Hospital to support the HCRC by creating Surfing for Hope. We are very excited about our third year and hope you will join us for this incredible event to support people and families who are challenged by cancer.
