BENEFITING: WILD AND FREE WILDLIFE PROGRAM
EVENT DATE: Oct 27, 2012
We now have an offer for matching funds! Details below...
Hi, my name is Jean! I live and work in the Twin Cities, and I have been running for well over 8 years now. I have participated in over 75 races, including 7 races of at least marathon distance. I am also a lover of birds and animals and have been all my life.
On October 27th, I am running the Surf the Murph 50K Ultramarathon. It takes place in the rolling hills of Murphy-Hanrehan Park in Savage, MN, and is run exclusively on trails. It will be my second ultra, but no doubt my toughest race to date. I have never run a race to raise funds for a charitable organization before, and I thought this would be a good opportunity to start.
Who I am running for: Wild and Free is a non-profit wildlife rehabilitation center in Garrison, MN that is near and dear to my heart. They take in injured and orphaned birds and animals in an effort to rehabilitate, care for, and release them back into the wild, and they are dedicated to wildlife and habitat education. I have been a supporter of theirs for a number of years now, and a barred owl, great-horned owl, and an American white pelican that I helped sponsor are now back in the wild thanks to these people. They do extraordinary work.
(See Wild and Free's Facebook page for pictures of the animals they have been helping. Also, here is a great story featuring Wild and Free's involvement with the rehabilitaton and release of a bobcat back into the wild.)
I wanted to do something help Wild and Free because they operate on a shoestring budget and rely so heavily on volunteers and donations (not only money, but even the most basic things like paper towels and garbage bags).
To put my money where my mouth is, I have started by making a personal donation of $200 to get the ball rolling.
MATCHING FUNDS: One of the medical and drug suppliers for Wild and Free and the Garrison Animal Hospital is the Pfizer Animal Health Company. They heard about this fundraiser and wanted to be a part of it. The Pfizer Animal Health Company has offered to match funds up to $5000! (More details at the Wild and Free Facebook page) We thank the Pfizer Animal Health Company for their generosity and willingness to particpate in this project.
Update 12-Sep-2012; We have passed the $5000 mark, and your generosity has ensured that Wild and Free will receive the full match from Pfizer Animal Health! But we do not have to stop there. Every little bit will only help to support Wild and Free in their efforts.
Would you consider supporting me in this mission? Your donations would be tax deductible, and even a small amount would help. (Note: you do not need to join the Crowdrise website in order to contribute - you can simply click the big orange "Donate" button and it will walk you through the process.)
It would mean a great deal to me if we could team up to make a nice contribution to Wild and Free. Let's help them help birds and animals get back on their paws, hooves, talons, and webbed feet!
Thank you for your support!
