Survivor of Domestic Violence
Organized by: Shery Grogan
I spent many years in a toxic relationship with my ex husband. I made many excuses for why I deserved the black eyes, cuts on my face, stitches in my head...I was meant to believe it was my fault. The last straw was when one afternoon after asking him to do a simple task as to take out dogs for a walk, turned into him pushing me down a flight of stairs resulting in a broke left arm, a shattered calcaneus and broken ankle. This man had no shame but to drop me off at the ER and left to go golfing. I was in a wheel chair for 6 months, endured two surgeries to correct and reform the bones that had shattered into pieces. I am now healed enough to have my last and final surgery to have to screws put in my ankle. Although I will always have arthritis in my foot for the rest of my life and am limited on some activities I used to enjoy, I am determined to do what I need to be able and move on. I have spent money hours in surgeries, physical therapy and therapy as well to overcome the violence endured for many years. This has been financially draining as well and with no help from my ex husband. As I swallow my pride and ask for help, this is my last resort. I only ask what you can give. Thank you.
