Survivors in Solidarity is a very small start up that is being run by one person currently, and is being self-funded. Our vision is a future free from sexual violence. Our goal here is to provide self-care tools to rape crisis centers for victims of rape and sexual assault. A lot of the time a victim is asked to turn over their clothing in the hospital as evidence. If a kit is being done, it's recommended that the victim not shower, use the bathroom, or eat/drink/brush their teeth, because that could affect the evidence being collected. Imagine yourself, sitting in a hospital exam room, most likely in a hospital gown, being told you can't do any of those things for hours. We want to provide: clothing, blankets, shampoo, body wash, a tooth brush, toothpaste, to cover all of their basic needs, and also things like sudoku, word search, magazines, books, to pass the time in the hospital. Rape kits are not a quick procedure, and sitting there alone with your own thoughts after one of the most traumatic events of your life isn't really anyone's idea of a good time.
What will you be funding?
Aside from the aforementioned items that will be going directly to survivors, there will also be legal and business fees. We also want to make sure that we can keep bringing consistent and quality content to you, and to be able to continually spread awareness about rape culture and sexual assault.
We know that the road to recovery is long and hard, no matter which path a victim may choose. We are here to help make this burden a little bit easier, if at all possible. To all survivors everywhere, we believe you, we hear you, and you're not alone. We stand with you
Without supporters like you none of this would be possible, for any organization that truly seeks to serve and help others. Thank you and please share this with your friends and family.
