Susan's Suzuki Teacher Training
Organized by: Susan Street
I am passionate about children and music. I am a state-paid attorney / Guardian ad litem representing the best interests of children in the child welfare system. Due to my parents' sacrifice and the good fortune of growing up in an era when instrumental music instruction was available in the public schools, I have also played the violin since the third grade. This July, I will participate in the 8 day initial training workshop to become a Violin Teacher registered with the Suzuki Association of the Americas. The training is expensive and time consuming. It requires me to take unpaid time off from my job to complete the workshops and classes. As a successfully trained Suzuki Violin Teacher, my goal is to provide Suzuki violin instruction to foster children and others from low-income families who cannot afford to rent or buy instruments or pay for this specialized musical experience and education. The money I raise will be used to pay my way to/from the 8 day initial training workshop and classes. The money raised will pay for airfare, workshop tuition, lodging, meals, and hopefully, leave enough $ left over to buy at least 1-3 beginning student quality violins in various sizes that I can lend to the low-income students I will teach.
