BENEFITING: COLLEGE MENTORS FOR KIDS INC
College Mentors for Kids at Cornell University is an innovative 501(c)3 organization that pairs 120 at-risk elementary school students with Cornell student mentors in one-on-one mentoring relationships. Our chapter partners with Caroline Elementary School and Cayuga Heights Elementary School to provide 120 students with a caring, adult role model to help them look forward sooner and be able to give back later. Each week, the children are bused to our campus for two hours after school to spend time with their mentors while participating in engaging, hands-on activities that allow them to explore Cornell’s campus and expose them to new opportunities. Our kids and mentors participate in structured, developmentally appropriate group activities which focus on higher education and careers, culture and diversity, and community service. The goal of the program is to help our kids envision positive and successful futures for themselves. Your support is vital in order to continue the work that we have started. In the three years since our chapter’s formation in 2013, we have tripled in size, from 40 mentor pairs to 120. This year, our fundraising need is $20,000, but as we work to improve our program and increase our impact on campus and in the community, we know this need will increase. The vast majority of our fundraising comes from individual fundraising requirements we enforce on our staff of 140+ Cornell student volunteers. The issue with these requirements is that they hinder the organization’s mission and our mentors’ attention from essential task at hand, changing the lives of 120 at-risk elementary school students. It is no accident that our campaign is titled the “Sustainable Expansion Campaign”. We hope to take the next step in our maturation process, one that will set our chapter up for success for the foreseeable future. We are setting the goal of our campaign at $100,000 in order to continue to maintain and expand our impact on Cornell’s campus, the Ithaca community, and most importantly—young lives. There are sponsorship opportunities at all levels and include benefits that maximize your visibility to the public and your investment. Sponsorship opportunities range from $5,000 to $100. Donations are tax-deductible, in accordance with 501(c)3 laws. College Mentors for Kids at Cornell University strengthens the Ithaca community and Cornell’s campus, but most importantly we are inspiring kids and college students to reach their full potential. Our program currently works, but with your help, it can thrive and fully achieve its mission. Thank you in advance for your support.
