BENEFITING: Southern District YMCA-Camp Lincoln Inc
"I hate peas!" "Yuck, worms!" Have we got a remedy for that! At Willow Pond Community Farm, we educate on the benefits of organically grown produce by getting your hands dirty. Children from YMCA Camp Lincoln learn the benefits of worms and the vibrant flavor of colorful veggies. Adults volunteer to tend the soil and nurture sensitive plants. Weekly shares are delivered for those who can afford fresh, locally-grown organic produce, and for those who can not! The YMCA provides assistance to those who have the desire to acquire, cook and consume organic vegetables. We will even show you how to prepare and cook it for tasty consumption! To reap a healthier community, this little farm that welcomes 70+ volunteers, teaches over 60 young campers, and delivers 45 weekly shares to local families needs help. A generous donor has agreed to match, up to $5,000, every dollar for: 1) a new deeper well; and 2) an expanded electrical infrastructure for the hoop houses and an on-site cooler. This campaign will support local Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) that contributes to the community's health and vibrancy through education, experience and access - through shares, farmers' markets and local food bank.
