BENEFITING: Tidewater Youth Services Foundation
EVENT DATE: Dec 11, 2016
Dear Friends and Family, Last year so many of you supported my Race It page for the Santa Claus Shuffle that I met my goal in just 5 days!! Thank you so much for supporting our young adults in need. Because of your donation this past year we have been able to: continue with the Literacy Program helping our clients gain better reading skills, support our Aggression Replacement Training which helps our youth make better choices, support Independent Living Skills for our youth who are transitioning from our apartment Living Program to being out on their own, and so much more. Even something that seems so small to us might be an unattainable expense for some of our kids: reading glasses, new shoes that fit (not hand-me downs that are too small), a chance to see a minor league baseball game, going fishing on a boat, taking a train ride to our state capital, or even having a math tutor to help you pass geometry. Research shows that when at risk youth are given guidance in Independent Living Skills, Social Skills, Literacy, and Math they tend not to repeat their past mistakes and do not return to the Juvenile Justice System again. Research also shows that sending young first offenders to a state juvenile correction facility does not work. If these young people stay in our community and receive the services our commission provides they have a much better chance of getting back on the road to success. We even have 3 clients that have started college this year, something they wouldn’t have dreamed of if it were not for our help. So once again I am asking for help to keep these great programs going. All donations are tax deductible and all of our funds support the programs for our youth. By helping our youth to become better individuals we in turn make our community a better place to live for all. Thank you and please sign up to run or walk the race on December 11. It is really a fun time!! http://santaclausshuffle.org/ Check out the video link.
