Hello friends-
Thank you first off for taking time to read this.
Most of you know I am now in my third year of medical school at the University of Miami. This has been an amazing adventure, transitioning from the classroom to direct patient care.
I have been blessed with the unique opportunity to be part of the Baylor Pediatric Initiative for a month from February 12, 2012- March 10, 2012. I will be living and working in Mbabane, Swaziland a small country bordered by South Africa to the South of the country. This resource poor country has the lowest life expectancy in the world at 32 years, and is in desperate need for health care workers, will only 16 physicians for every 100,000 people. I will be working along side other physicians at the hospital, including those from Baylor University and those from the local community, to make sure all the pediatric patients in Swaziland get the care they need from, ARVs (antiretroviral medications for HIV), identifying and treating TB, as well as making sure these young patients are getting the nutrition they need. As most of you know I have a BIG heart for children and international medicine, with other trips in medical school that many of you have supported to the Dominican Republic and Haiti.
I need support for the plane trip and living costs while I am there.
Please feel free to contact me at tgayle@med.miami.edu, or 904-343-1392 if you have any questions or want to know more about my trip.
Thanks so much!
