BENEFITING: SOUTH WOOD COUNTY RECREATION INC
EVENT DATE: Aug 31, 2014
10 MORE DAYS TO DONATE!! THANK YOU MUCH!!
The South Wood County Recreation Center (SWCRC) is a non-profit organization that has served this community for over 20 years. Led by its dedicated board of directors, hard working volunteers, coaches, and staff, Wisconsin Rapids area youth and adults have benefited from a top-of-the-line ice facility right here in our hometown. Currently, over 100 kids, ranging from youth hockey, figure skaters, Lincoln and Assumption High Schools to our very own Wisconsin Rapids Riverkings Junior-A hockey team all receive on-ice training, perform and play games at the SWCRC.
We are a group of volunteers with a vision to design, construct, and produce an off-ice training site within the SWCRC. Skating, whether in hockey or figure skates, requires the athlete utilize specific muscles for power and endurance all while performing at a high speed and balancing on a blade that is .11" thick. To maximize performance on the ice these athletes require intensive off-ice training and it is our goal to provide just that at the SWCRC.
As of June 20th, 2014, the SWCRC board of directors has approved building of the site and construction will be initiated thanks to a generous donation from Rapids Rental and Supply of Wisconsin Rapids to cover the initial costs. The training site will be located on the balcony of the SWCRC, behind the team benches, and be 50'x15' in size. Three walls will be constructed by volunteers led by Wisconsin Rapids native Andy Edwards of Edwards Quality Construction. The building materials and training equipment will be purchased at local retailers such as Metcalf Lumber, Home Depot, Bring's Cycling and Fitness, Wal-Mart, and Dynamic Fitness and Strength which is a company in Wisconsin that specializes in manufacturing strength products and storage systems*.
As far as funding, we are exploring any and every avenue from grants approved by local community organizations such as Incourage Community Foundation, Riverview Hospital Community Foundation, and the WoodTrust Foundation; while also seeking support from Optimist and Rotary Clubs, Kiwanas, etc in Wisconsin Rapids. As of July 11, the SWCRC Training Site is supported by grant funds through Incourage Community Foundation. We will also be asking local business owners, booster clubs, and the organizations that will directly benefit, which are the Wisconsin Rapids Riverkings, Lincoln High School Hockey, South Wood County Youth Hockey Association, Red Panthers Hockey, Wisconsin Rapids Figure Skating Club, and Hazard Hockey for financial backing. Finally, we are looking to you! Whether you are an alum of one of the aforementioned organizations, a caring community member that would like to support our youth or a sports fan that believes in our project, we appreciate any donation offered. We want to be Central Wisconsin's preferred site for training skating athletes of all ages and believe our community has the resources and the right people to make our dream a reality. Thank you!
Short term: By September 27th, 2014, hold an open house and grand opening of a fully functional training site to be utilized this upcoming hockey season.
Long term: Create opportunities for local certified trainers to rent the space at little to no cost for programs such as Cross-fit or Boot camp. Explore and create revenue generating opportunities for continued expansion of the training site. Develop an interactive website for information on schedule, programs offered, common injuries/prevention, training materials: www.hipstronghockey.com.
*Note: Donations made with a credit card on this website go directly into the SWCRC account. The funds collected from this fundraiser will determine the quality of the fitness rack/storage system we will be purchasing for the training center. August is our month to fundraise!! Thank you much!!
