In the past few weeks, we've all been thinking a lot about what real leadership looks like. And if you, like so many of us, have been looking for ways to contribute to a more inclusive, equal, kind, *educated,* and less all-around-horrifying world—I have an easy way for you to help. And yes, it's way more satisfying and impactful than posting yet another think-piece to Facebook (although, keep those coming and I'll keep reading).
Anyway! Back to the issue at hand: For the past three years, I've been raising money for She's the First—a fab organization that does super important work to raise up girls into the global leaders we so obviously need. Many girls around the world, especially in developing countries, can't afford to go to school (often the uniforms alone are too expensive for their families) which is where She's The First comes in—funding girls' education in ten countries, and giving families and communities hope for a better future. Sending girls to school protects them from child marriage; boosts local economies; helps reduce disease rates (really!); and helps girls realize their dreams of becoming leaders, innovators, and badass contributors to their communities and to our world. Girls. Are. Awesome. (I know, preaching to the choir, but still!)
Since I started fundraising for She's The First, I've been so thrilled at the generosity of my friends, family, and colleagues. Together, we've sent two awesome little girls in Uganda—both of them named Winnie!—to school three years in a row. And now that it's time for year four, I'm hoping I can count on you to stand with me, with them, and with girls in general and contribute again in whatever way you can. Anything from a $10 donation to a much larger one (let's do this, people!) to sharing the link to my fundraiser on your social will make a big difference and is so appreciated.
Oh, and yes, I'll be running a 5K in California to support this. But I'd like to think you'd want to be a part of this even if I wasn't going to be running in a big circle for the cause.
Lots of love,
